Pint Pot Bridge on Rockvale Road is now open to traffic, following the replacement of the aging timber bridge with a new concrete structure.
Council replaced the aging timber bridge as part of Round Four of the Federal Government's Bridge Renewal Program. Member for New England Barnaby Joyce said the Australian Government supported the project with a $561,000 grant under its Bridges Renewal Program.
"Bridges carrying cattle is cash in the shops, driving the local dollar further in Armidale and further building our New England economy," Mr Joyce said. Armidale Regional Council Mayor Ian Tiley said the replacement of Pint Pot Bridge is another tick to strengthening the local economy and road infrastructure across the region.
"The new concrete structure opens the route to heavy vehicles by eradicating the need for a road limit, and provides greater safety and longevity for all road users.
Council started construction on the replacement Pint Pot Bridge in October 2020 and completed work this month.
The replacement of the bridge is part of Council's Bridge Renewal Strategy that is progressively replacing or renewing aged timber bridges throughout the Armidale region, with 32 structures identified for the program.
