A new plan to fill potholes and deliver better roads across the Mornington Peninsula

Potholes will be filled and local roads improved across the Mornington Peninsula under a new commitment announced today by Jess Wilson's Liberal and Nationals team.

For several months, the Peninsula Link freeway has been impacted by road closures and reduced speed limits - significantly impact daily life for residents and visitors and causing traffic congestion throughout local communities.

The project was supposed to be finished by the end of last year but the timeframe has been pushed out several times by the private consortium operating the road. Meanwhile the State Government, which signed the contract to deliver the road, has provided little or no information to local residents on when they can expect the road to be fully available.

The management of these recent works, which have been delayed over the summer period and will cause severe disruption until at least June, are not in line with community expectations. Locals deserve better.

That's why - when agreed service levels have not been met as per the Peninsula Link PPP contract signed by the Labor Government in 2010 - a Jess Wilson Liberal and Nationals Government will reduce payments to Peninsula Link operator and divert that money into improving local roads across the Mornington Peninsula.

Leader of the Opposition, Jess Wilson, said: "My Liberals and Nationals team has a plan to deliver better local roads by reducing payments to the private consortium operating Peninsula Link whilst it is under repair and not fully available. The money saved will then be used to improve local roads across the Peninsula."

"Under Labor, mismanaged works on the Peninsula Link have delayed and disrupted residents for too long, all whilst potholes go unfilled on local roads.

"Premier Jacinta Allan could act today to redirect funds to fixing local roads. But if she won't, the Liberals and Nationals will.

"Only Anthony Marsh as part of my Liberals and Nationals team will deliver a better deal for Nepean locals, fill potholes and fix roads across the Mornington Peninsula."

Liberal Candidate for Nepean, Anthony Marsh, said: "This is great news for the Peninsula. For too long residents in Nepean have been taken for granted and only a Wilson Liberal and Nationals Government can deliver the funding and action needed to fix our local roads."

Shadow Minister for Roads, Danny O'Brien, said: "Delivering quality roads for Victorians is a priority for our team and this plan will help provide exactly that for the Mornington Peninsula."

Member for Mornington, Chris Crewther, said: "Hundreds of locals have contacted me about the impact these mismanaged works are having on our local community.

"Only a Wilson Liberal and Nationals Government will hold the Peninsula Link operator to account and redirect funding into better local roads."
