New Plan To Revitalise Port Macquarie CBD

Port Macquarie-Hastings

The Port Macquarie CBD is proposed to be reinvigorated under a new plan to create a more vibrant, inclusive, and economically thriving city centre.

The Port Macquarie City Heart Master Plan will identify strategic planning considerations to enhance development and growth opportunities through the provision of additional housing opportunities in the CBD.

It aims to improve the city centre's public spaces by activating the night life economy, providing greater accessibility, creating additional green space and increasing investment potential for local businesses.

Mayor Adam Roberts said the plan is about shaping a CBD that better supports the needs of our growing population.

"This is more than just a facelift for our CBD, it's about creating a place that reflects the changing character of our community as we continue to grow and evolve from a regional town into a regional city," Mayor Roberts said.

"The Master Plan will integrate housing, business, recreation, and infrastructure needs to create a better-connected CBD that encourages connection and economic vitality."

"With the opportunity for public feedback now open, I look forward to seeing this plan develop and evolve in collaboration with our community."

Specific components of the master plan propose opportunities for major improvements to Clarence Street, with outdoor dining, pedestrian-friendly options, and safer, more accessible public spaces.

It also considers opportunities to redesign Horton and Hayward Streets to prioritise improved pedestrian access and business activation.

PMHC was successful in receiving a $200,000 grant via the NSW Regional Housing Strategic Planning Fund to partner with a suitably qualified consultant to support changes to planning controls for additional housing.

The City Heart Master Plan will continue to evolve with feedback from community, starting with an engagement session tomorrow (Thursday) morning at 10am at the Westport Club. The information we gather during the pre-consultation phase will inform the development of the draft master plan, which will be presented to Council at a future meeting.
