New Precinct To Boost Health And Wellbeing Support On North West

  • In another massive boost to the health and wellbeing of Tasmanians, a re-elected Tasmanian Liberal Government will deliver a one-stop, community-based health and wellbeing Precinct in Latrobe.

Partnering with Health Nexus, the Precinct will deliver a range of bulk-billed primary care and allied health services, with around 25,000 extra GP appointments to be delivered each year - further easing the pressure on North West Hospitals.

It will include 12 GP rooms, an allied-health and rehab gym, an urgent-care bay, a purpose built room for teaching, community spaces, as well as 20 units as part of a Housing Village for Seniors.

Premier Jeremy Rockliff said the Tasmanian Liberals are boosting access to primary healthcare for Tasmanians right across the State.

"The Precinct will be located across the road from the Mersey Community Hospital, and will improve access to primary care, reduce hospital admissions, improve housing options for older Tasmanians, as well as provide training for the next generation of rural clinicians," Premier Rockliff said.

"Importantly, the Precinct will create around 60 jobs during construction, as well as ongoing roles for up to 40 clinical and support staff.

"A re-elected Tasmanian Liberal Government will continue to step in where the Federal Labor Government hasn't, to support Tasmanians with primary health care.

"We've already announced that we will open five new GP bulk-billing clinics under a re-elected Liberal Government, as well as invest in an Urgent Care Centre in Legana and the expansion of the Bicheno Medical Centre.

"On top of that, we'll deliver the entire first stage of the North West Hospitals Masterplan, and 250 additional beds at the New Northern Health Complex at the Launceston General Hospital.

"The Liberal team are offering a clear plan, a united team, and the leadership to get on with it.

"While Labor and the Greens argue, we've been delivering better healthcare, more housing, and responsible cost-of-living relief.

"Let's finish the job for Tasmania."

Our Government will step in to contribute the final $6 million, by way of a no-interest loan that will pave the way for the project to proceed, subject to meeting all necessary planning approvals.

A Development Application is expected to be lodged within the next month, with construction to begin by years end and be complete by 2027.
