The Crisafulli Government is launching a new program empowering councils to tackle illegal dumping, crack down on offenders and keep Queensland clean.
The new $17.7 million Fighting Illegal Dumping Partnership Program (FIDPP) is designed to provide councils across the state with the resources needed to tackle illegal dumping effectively.
Funding will help councils employ dedicated illegal dumping compliance officers, purchase surveillance equipment, compliance signage, vehicles, and other resources to enhance their capacity to investigate and prevent illegal dumping.
The program is part of the Crisafulli Government's commitment to reduce litter across Queensland, while cleaning up Labor's decade of haphazard waste management.
Under Labor, Queensland's illegal dumping reports spiked by 26 per cent.
Minister for the Environment and Tourism Andrew Powell said Labor's waste mismanagement had caused recycling rates to go backwards and led to more illegal dumping reports.
"Queensland is blessed with some of the most extraordinary natural landscapes anywhere in the world, and we all have a responsibility to protect it from the harm caused by litter and illegal dumping," Minister Powell said.
"This program strengthens the work we do alongside councils right across the state, giving them the tools they need to identify offenders, deter illegal dumping, and safeguard the local places Queenslanders care about.
"Whether you live on the coast, in the regions, or out west, every Queenslander deserves clean parks and healthy waterways. This program is a major step toward delivering exactly that."
