Stage two of the Queenborough Oval Redevelopment has officially been delivered, marking the final milestone in the project.
Minister for Sport, Nick Duigan, said the completion of the project represented a significant investment in community sport and will have far-reaching benefits.
"Through our 2030 Strong Plan for Tasmania's Future, we are delivering the sporting infrastructure our communities need to succeed," Minister Duigan said.
"The Tasmanian Government has invested $2 million in the redevelopment project.
"It's fantastic that the 700 users of this community precinct will have improved and more inclusive facilities. The clubs using the site field around 30 teams, and all clubs have both male and female teams participating in various competitions.
"We know that Tasmanian women and girls face a range of barriers to participating in sport and active recreation – fewer girls than boys play sport and women are under-represented in sport leadership roles across the country.
"The new changeroom facilities have been designed with a strong focus on supporting women and girls with modern, inclusive and fit-for-purpose changerooms and amenities.
"They are specifically aimed at encouraging participation and removing barriers and reflect contemporary standards for community sport.
"Another key innovation in the redevelopment is the creation of a large multi-purpose pavilion that connects the new and existing buildings, which will serve as a community hub."
Queenborough Oval is primarily home to Sandy Bay Junior Football Club, Hutchins Old Boys Football Club and South Hobart Sandy Bay Cricket Club.
The Queenborough Oval Redevelopment was jointly funded by the Tasmanian Government ($2 million), the City of Hobart ($2.25 million) and AFL Tasmania ($50,000).
