A new Regional University Study Hub was officially opened today in Northam, bringing university closer for local residents in Western Australia.
The new Northam University Study Hub, located on Wellington Street, is part of the Australian Government's $66.9 million investment to double the number of University Study Hubs across the country.
A recommendation of the Universities Accord, the University Study Hubs will help more people from regional and remote Australia and the outer suburbs of Australia's major cities get a crack at going to university.
While nearly half of young Australians have a university qualification, rates are significantly lower in regional Australia. In Northam, just over 11 per cent of young people have a degree.
The evidence shows that where Study Hubs are, university participation goes up.
Fifty-two Regional University Study Hubs are currently open around the country, with a further four to open by early next year.
