Cuts to fuel usage, greenhouse gas emissions and waste going to landfill are among highlights of Mildura Rural City Council's Environmental Sustainability Report 2024-25.
The report highlights the organisation's ongoing progress to manage our natural areas while reducing our impact on the environment.
It also provides a comprehensive overview of Council's performance across key sustainability areas, including greenhouse emissions, electricity, fleet, water, biodiversity, waste, and community education and engagement.
Key achievements for 2024-25 include:
- Reaching 1,070kW of installed solar panels on Council-owned buildings and facilities
- Reduced greenhouse emissions by 551 tCO₂-e compared to the previous year, driven by improvements in buildings, fleet, and landfill
- Delivered 64 environmental education activities and events
- Diverted and recycled 14,339 tonnes of kerbside food and garden organics (FOGO) waste and 540 tonnes of kerbside glass waste
- Six percent decrease in fuel consumption across Council's fleet
Councillor for Environmental Sustainability Jodi Ewings said the report also detailed Council's work to preserve, protect, and enhance local bushland areas and roadside reserves, ensuring the unique natural environment of our region is maintained for future generations.
"Community engagement is another key element of our work in this space," Cr Ewings said.
"Initiatives such as Mildura Eco Village, National Tree Day, and Clean Up Australia Day continue to build community capacity to value and care for our environment, as well as help raise awareness."
