Guy Barnett,Minister for Veterans' Affairs

The Tasmanian Liberal Government recognises the valuable contribution of Tasmania's service men and women and is committed to supporting veterans and ex-serving members in Tasmania.

Applications are now open for Round 1 of the 2021-22 Teddy Sheean VC Memorial Grants Program to fund and support Tasmanian veterans and ex-serving organisations.

These organisations can share in a total of $50,000 to fund small infrastructure repairs and maintenance, and/or equipment purchases for RSLs throughout Tasmania, as well as war memorial construction, repair and maintenance.

The Grants Program will provide grants of up $10,000 for minor capital works, $5000 for equipment purchases for RSL cubs, sub-branch and ex-service organisations, and up to $5000 towards the repair and maintenance of war memorials and construction of new memorials.

The Grants Program will also provide grants of up to $5000 to eligible organisations for welfare initiatives to support the health and well-being of veterans.

The Teddy Sheean VC Memorial Grants Program was established by the Tasmanian Liberal Government as a tribute to the bravery and sacrifice made by Tasmanian sailor Edward 'Teddy' Sheean VC who gave his life for his country and fellow shipmates during a battle in 1942 off the coast of East Timor.

The Grants Program honours Teddy Sheean VC as a representative of the many Tasmanians who selflessly gave their lives for others in the defence of this country.

The Grants Program guidelines are available from Communities Tasmania's website www.communities.tas.gov.au/csr.
