New Sport and Recreation Hub for Eynesbury

Sports enthusiasts across a range of codes will be able to play in front of a home crowd thanks to new, state-of-the-art facilities to be built at Avoca Street, Eynesbury.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Infrastructure, Transport and Regional Development Michael McCormack said the $9.1 million Eynesbury Recreation Reserve project will allow more sport to be played locally.

"Sport and recreation is not just about winning; it's about helping build stronger, healthier, happier andsafer communities, which is a goal the Federal Liberal and Nationals Government is pleased to contribute to through this upgrade," Mr McCormack said.

Senator for Victoria Jane Hume said the construction of the multi-purpose facility will provide a popular meeting point for the community.

"Eynesbury Recreation Reserve will be available for everyone to use and will cater not only to sports including AFL, cricket, futsal, netball and tennis but will include recreational facilities such as an adventure playground, BBQ facilities and walking paths," Senator Hume said.

"Currently, Eynesbury residents can travel more than an hour to play sport. Having a quality facility within easy reach will bring economic gains through hosting sporting and general events, as well as health benefits through greater participation."

City of Melton Mayor Bob Turner said the project will help Council deliver vital sporting infrastructure to meet the needs of the Eynesbury community and encourage greater participation in sports.

"It’s fantastic to see works get underway on the much-anticipated Eynesbury Recreation Reserve. This project will deliver an outstanding sports precinct that will provide wide-ranging health and social benefits for the local community," Cr Turner said.

This project was jointly funded with the Federal Liberal and Nationals Government investing $2,845,377, the Victorian Government $2,075,000, the City of Melton $4,140,623 and AFL Victoria $100,000.

The Liberal and Nationals Government contribution was funded under its Building Better Regions Fund. This is a $641 million investment designed to create jobs, drive economic growth and build stronger regional communities into the future.
