New Storm Warning System Enhances Tasmanian Alerts

Tasmanians are receiving clearer and more consistent emergency warning advice, with the delivery of the new Tasmanian Storm Warning System.
The new system aligns with the Australian Warning System, making it easier for communities to understand the seriousness of a storm and take action to stay safe.
Minister for Police, Fire and Emergency Management, Felix Ellis, said the delivery of the new system would help people make more informed decisions during severe weather.
"These new storm warnings will give people clear guidance about what they need to do to protect themselves and their families," Minister Ellis said.
Under the new system, each storm warning will be issued using nationally consistent warning levels, each supported by a clear call to action:
  • Advice - Stay informed. There is no immediate danger, but conditions may change.
  • Watch and Act - Take action now. The threat is increasing.
  • Emergency Warning - Act immediately. You may be in danger.
"These same warning levels are already used for bushfires and floods, so they will be familiar to many Tasmanians," Minister Ellis said.
"Consistency means people can recognise the warning quickly and respond with confidence."
Storm warnings will continue to be issued through TasALERT and shared across the TasALERT website, social media, radio, and other media channels.
"I strongly encourage all Tasmanians to use TasALERT as the official source of emergency information," Minister Ellis said.
