Student outcomes in Hume City are set to receive a significant boost with the Northern Study Hub Broadmeadows now open.
Operated by La Trobe University in collaboration with Hume Multiversity partners, the Study Hub is located on the ground floor of the Hume City Council office building on Pascoe Vale Road.
The hub provides local tertiary students more opportunities to learn and study close to home, breaking down some of the barriers many people in our community face to further study.
Built to be convenient and accessible, the space is open Monday to Saturday with after-hours access available for registered students and includes individual workstations, quiet zones, informal study areas and bookable meeting rooms.
By being centrally located in the heart of Broadmeadows, close to public transport, retail and community services, this development will serve a range of community members, including those who may face barriers to education.
This is a major win for current and future students in Melbourne's north. The lack of access to further education is known to negatively impact employment numbers, health and social status, all of which put our growing community at a disadvantage.
Additionally, the hub will have wider positive impacts on the Hume Central economy, increasing foot traffic into local businesses and increasing Hume's potential as a learning community.
The Northern Study Hub Broadmeadows is supported by the Australian Government and is Victoria's first Suburban University Hub as part of the Suburban University Study Hubs Program.
The Hume Multiversity is a partnership between leading tertiary institutions, industry and Hume City Council that aims to increase the skills and employability of our residents.
Students can browse the facilities and register their interest in using the Northern Study Hub online.
Quotes attributable to Hume City Mayor, Councillor Jarrod Bell:
"The number of residents in Hume City earning a formal qualification is well below that in other areas of Melbourne, with access to further education close to home a significant barrier for locals.
Increased education outcomes have a proven positive effect on local economies and on general wellbeing. This new study hub will produce huge benefits, not just for high school students but for all in our community."
