Defence is working with industry partner Leidos to build a new integrated, secure, and future-focused digital health knowledge management (HKM) capability to enhance the health care provided to Australian Defence Force members.
HKM will replace Defence's existing e-health records management system in its health centres and expand the e-health capability to support personnel on deployed operations.
Acting Chief of Joint Capabilities Rear Admiral Ian Murray said a healthy workforce was a key enabler of ADF capability, and a key component of the health system was to deliver secure, accurate and transferable health information.
"The HKM system aims to bridge the capability gaps in legacy systems, to enhance the delivery of multi-disciplinary health care and provide a longitudinal health record for our personnel, whether they are deployed on operations or in Garrison," Rear Admiral Murray said.
"This project will directly impact all members of the ADF, not only from the clinician's perspective, but it will provide members with the opportunity to interact more closely with the health system, allowing them to become more active in their own health care. A key benefit is the system will allow members to manage their health care from enlistment to transition from service."
Rear Admiral Murray said, once delivered, Defence would have a modern e-health system that: ensured an ADF member's health information was available wherever they were treated; improved patient safety; met the legislative, clinical and operational needs of the ADF; met secure record-keeping requirements; and, supported the trusted exchange of data with other health services.
