Korean artist Jungkeun Park has arrived in Tasmania as part of a new Tasmanian and Korean international arts collaboration, which promotes bilateral social and cultural understanding between Australia and Korea.
Mr Park, a visual artist from Jeju Island, will spend six weeks living in Hobart and working in a studio at the University of Tasmania’s School of Creative Arts. He will be followed by painter Eunsuk Jeon, who will arrive in October for six weeks.
Tasmanians Dr Penny Burnett and Dr Megan Walch, will each spend six weeks connecting with the arts and cultural sector of Jeju in Korea, in a bid to build cultural understanding and strengthen their artistic practices.
These exchanges, which will be offered again in 2019, provide a framework for artists to act as cultural ambassadors, using the arts as a means of building greater awareness and understanding between our two islands.
The program is jointly funded by the Tasmanian Government and Australian Government through the Australia-Korea Foundation (AKF) of the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade. The AKF supports activities that promote mutual understanding and stronger people-to-people relations between Australia and the Republic of Korea.
