The Rockliff Liberal Government is proud to formally open Tasmania's Arch Centres today.
The Centres (one in Hobart and one in Launceston) provide victim-survivors of sexual violence with wraparound, trauma-informed care in a single location.
"Violence against anyone, in any form, is unacceptable, but the harm caused by sexual violence is particularly devastating," Minister Felix Ellis said.
"Arch brings together specialist family violence services, sexual assault services, and police and prosecution services under one roof, so they are readily accessible for victim-survivors.
"The centres were designed in close consultation with victim-survivors and support sector experts to ensure they are most appropriate to support victim-survivors at their time of need."
Minister Felix Ellis said that at these centres there will be no marked police cars, no police uniforms, and no requirement for a victim-survivor to speak with police until, and only if, they are ready.
"There are also discrete interview rooms and children-purposed areas."
Minister Ogilvie said we are making changes to assist people to come forward in an environment of extended support and understanding so that they are to seek and receive help.
"We are working diligently across both national and state levels to ensure we are focussed on eliminating violence from our communities. It is serious and difficult work that requires investment, focus and understanding.
"Our vision is for a Tasmania where everyone is safe, equal and respected, and our homes and communities are free from sexual violence."
Minister Ogilvie said that the centres were developed in consultation with a broad range of stakeholders, and are a testament to the advocacy of so many who envisioned a more contemporary approach to eradicating the scourge of violence in our society.
The Government provided $15.1 million to establish the Arch facilities.
The Northern Arch opened earlier this week, and the Southern Arch was opened in Hobart in July.
