New tennis centre at McGirr Park in Miller

22 October 2019

Liverpool Mayor Wendy Waller has kicked off work on a new tennis facility at McGirr Park in Miller.

Mayor Waller was joined by Councillors Nathan Hagarty, Karress Rhodes, Peter Harle and Geoff Shelton for a sod-turning ceremony at the park.

The McGirr Park facility includes four tennis courts – two synthetic grass, two acrylic – an amenities building, lighting, landscaping, paths and car parking.

"This new centre is wonderful news for tennis players in Liverpool, and Miller residents in particular," Mayor Waller said.

"McGirr Park has long been one of Liverpool's hidden gems and we're excited to be adding a first-class sporting centre to this great location.

"It already has a lot to offer, as many local residents know, and the new courts will be enjoyed for generations to come."

The tennis facility is expected to be completed by the end of the year. Council consulted with Tennis Australia to ensure the community will benefit from high-quality tennis programs and services.

The four new courts replace those removed at Phillips Park in Lurnea, where Council is building a $16 million sports and community precinct.
