New Tool To Report Abandoned Shopping Trolleys

Abandoned Trolleys reporting form.png

The City of Ryde has stepped up the fight to rid our public spaces of a growing volume of potentially dangerous abandoned shopping trolleys.

A new online reporting process accessible on the City of Ryde website enables residents to log sightings of abandoned trolleys, which can clutter our footpaths and roads, infringing on pedestrian and cyclist safety as well as diminishing local amenity.

After an incident of abandoned trolleys is reported via the online form, Council's Regulatory team will investigate and arrange for their removal.

The form will also include links to the online reporting mechanisms for supermarket chains including Coles, Woolworths, Aldi and IGA, alongside advice about the Public Spaces (Unattended Property) Act 2021.

The Act was intended to "help protect valuable public spaces across the City of Ryde from abandoned and unattended items".

The new online form is a result of a motion passed at the February 2025 Ordinary Meeting at which Council resolved to investigate the implementation of a more user-friendly or contemporary response mechanism to the problem which would allow for easy and precise geolocation of dangerously located items.

Previously, concerned residents were directed to a landline phone number and an email address.
