New Trade Standards Pact Boosts Trans-Tasman Ties

The new standards agreement between Standards Australia and Standards New Zealand will build on our existing mutual recognition agreement. It will improve alignment with international frameworks and create consistent safety and quality standards across both countries.

Standards Australia is an independent, not-for-profit national standards development body. They are responsible for developing and maintaining standards that support safety, consistency and innovation across our economy.

The updated agreement will help businesses streamline operations, reduce costs, improve quality and meet regulatory requirements in both countries.

It will deliver practical benefits for Australian and New Zealand businesses, including:

  • improving regulatory consistency
  • supporting digital trade
  • greater use of international standards to support trade and competitiveness.

The agreement will also:

  • remove commissioning fees for New Zealand industry on joint Australian-New Zealand standards development
  • support ongoing work to deepen trans-Tasman economic cooperation.
