New virtual group supports children, teens through caregiver's illness

The UC Davis Child Life and Creative Arts Therapy Department is launching a new virtual support group for children and adolescents ages 6 to 17 who have a parent or caregiver with a serious illness.

Each of the four sessions provides opportunities for sharing, self-expression and virtually coming together to explore coping strategies, using art materials.

  • A group for children ages 6-11 will be held virtually on Tuesdays, Oct. 5, 12, 19 and 26 from 3:30-4:30 p.m.
  • A group for adolescents ages 12-17 will be held virtually on Thursdays, Oct. 7, 14, 21 and 28 from 3:30-4:30 p.m.

Coping Together is facilitated by a child life specialist and art therapist trained in child development, coping and self-expression.

The group is funded by New York Life and provided free of charge to all members of the community.
