Wandoan residents and community groups have up to 20,000 new reasons to celebrate the launch of a dedicated Wandoan Community Grants Program.

Through a new one-off grant funding program, Western Downs Regional Council will invest all funds from the disposal of the former Wandoan Golf Club into the heart of the broader Wandoan area.

Western Downs Regional Council Spokesperson for Community and Cultural Development Cr Peter Saxelby said the new community grants program offered Wandoan locals a valuable opportunity to bring to life new events, projects, and initiatives.

"Council's Wandoan Community Grants Program is a fantastic initiative, as it guarantees these funds directly benefit residents in the broader Wandoan area of our region," Cr Saxelby said.

"The program is open to local sporting clubs, community groups, not-for-profit organisations, and school P&Cs.

"Funding of up to $20,000 is available out of a total $51,000 funding pool to support projects, major events, and activities that enhance and activate community spaces or strengthen community connection and wellbeing.

"In launching this local grant program, Council is delivering on its commitment to empowering our regional communities, enabling the people of the Wandoan to drive and develop locally led events and initiatives."

Cr Saxelby said the application guidelines were clear and accessible on Council's website, making it easy for everyone to get involved and put forward new grant funding submissions.

"Council remains committed to supporting the efforts of our volunteers and community organisations," he said.

"Volunteer organisations in Wandoan and across the district are the driving force behind some of our favourite events - the Lindsay Williams Shield, the Wandoan Camel Races, the Kirk Reynoldson Cup, and the Waterloo Plains Park Run to name but a few!

"Grassroots organisations are the beating heart of regional towns like Wandoan; they bring people together, create opportunities, and help our communities thrive.

"I'd encourage Wandoan residents to head to Council's Smarty Search grants finder page, check the guidelines, prepare an application, and take this opportunity to shape a brighter future for Wandoan."

Applications for the Wandoan Community Grants Program open on 2 March 2026 and close on 30 April 2026. Grant outcomes will be announced on 1 June 2026.
