The new advice will make it easier to create high-quality compost for parks and gardens.
Accepted items in your lime-green lid FOGO bin:
Food scraps, removed from their packaging
Fruit and vegetable scraps
Meat, bones and seafood
Loose tea and coffee grounds
Garden waste, including grass clippings, leaves and small branches
Certified compostable caddy liners displaying the AS 4736 symbol.
The following items now need to go in your red lid general waste bin:
Pet poo and cat litter
Tea bags
Paper towels/tissues
Greasy or food-soiled pizza boxes.
Unpackaged food waste, garden waste including grass clippings, small branches and leaves, and certified compostable bin liners can continue to go into your lime-green lid FOGO bins.
Household waste material not classified as food organics or garden organics can continue to be placed in red-lid bins.
The new categories will apply to all businesses and residential properties that use the City's waste collection service and to businesses and residential properties that are awaiting the rollout of lime-green lid FOGO bins in their area.
Councils across Western Australia will be updating their community notices and social media channels to communicate the new guidelines.
