The Pittsworth Waste Management Facility is set to receive significant investment thanks to the installation of a new weighbridge in coming months.
Toowoomba Regional Council (TRC) will soon install a weighbridge at the facility under the requirements of the Queensland Waste Disposal Levy legislation.
Toowoomba Region Mayor Geoff McDonald said there would be minimal disruptions during construction in a positive win for users of the facility.
"Construction of the new weighbridge involves building a new entrance into the facility off Tip Road. This will extend the available queuing distance and improve safety at the rail crossing.
"The works area will not impact normal traffic into the facility except during some minor excavation. Users of the facility should expect very minor delays with traffic control in place," Mayor McDonald said.
TRC received a grant from the Department of State Development, Local Government and Public Works under the Levy Ready grant program for $331,250 to assist with the cost.
Weather permitting, the opening of the new weighbridge is projected for early in the new financial year, after which customers will use the new entrance.
"The location of the new weighbridge at the Pittsworth Waste Management Facility is in-line with Council's Waste Management Strategy and has been located to align with the future design which will be built when the landfill is full and the site is converted into a modern waste transfer station," Mayor McDonald said.
