Kiama Council

The sponsorship drive to fund the New Year's Eve fireworks is close to reaching its goal with several businesses pledging financial support for Kiama Municipal Council's campaign.
The official tally now sits at $91,000 after another three sponsors have confirmed substantial amounts - Jamberoo Action Park and Gerringong's McMahon's Transport have pledged $5000 each with national property and construction group Traders in Purple have committed $19,000 to the cause.
Council's Tourism & Economic Advisory Committee (TEAC) is aiming for a target of $100,000 to ensure the iconic Sky Show will return to Kiama Harbour this year.
Mayor Cameron McDonald was thrilled with the response from the business community, both locally and from companies based outside Kiama's local government area.
"We are very close to reaching our target and if there are any other businesses who are considering the option of taking up a sponsorship package, we'd love to hear from you," he said.
Council allocated $20,000 in its 2026-27 budget to stage the celebrations, with Kiama Business Network and Cedar on Collins kick-starting the sponsorship drive by committing $10,000 each.
South Break Media, The Sebel Kiama and One Fitness 24/7 have each contributed $5000 while Saltwater Cafe and Tiny Tins are sponsoring the event's entertainment and live music program and an anonymous donor has chipped in $2000.
All incoming sponsorships must go through probity processes and are managed in accordance with Council's policies. Any conflicts of interest that may arise will be managed in accordance with relevant policies. Sponsorships of $5000 or more must be approved at a Council meeting.
"We are in the home straight and we are hopeful that we can get to the finish line very soon so that this wonderful family-friendly event can help us bring in the new year on 31 December," TEAC chair, Councillor Matt Brown said.
If the funding goal is not achieved, Council will deliver scaled-back New Year's Eve celebrations with music and entertainment at Hindmarsh Park and extended trading opportunities for local businesses to benefit from one of the year's biggest nights.
