Hobsons Bay's younger citizens will be jumping for joy as the fences surrounding Paine Reserve are removed and a new playground is revealed.

The temporary fencing came down on Thursday morning and the community is welcome to play and explore.

The upgraded play space is part of the Paine Reserve Landscape Master Plan and includes an amphitheatre area, a new play space, a multi-purpose stage/deck and large open lawn areas for recreational and social activities. Signage and park furniture have also been renewed.

Future upgrade works will include upgraded fencing surrounding Newport Bowls Club which will be completed by mid-2021.

The Paine Reserve Landscape Master Plan works was endorsed by Council in May of last year after extensive consultation with local traders, clubs and community members.

Quotes attributable to Mayor of Hobsons Bay and Strand Ward Cr Jonathon Marsden

"The new play space at Paine Reserve has been worth the wait and I know there will be plenty of little people keen to explore the new area. But it will be more than a play space, it will offer the broader community so many opportunities to relax in the large open lawn areas or enjoy performances in the amphitheatre and stage area.

"I congratulate everyone involved in this project and share the excitement of the local traders and residents that the dream of a revitalised Paine Reserve has been realised. We look forward to welcoming our community back to Paine Reserve, Newport and seeing them enjoy this reinvigorated family friendly space."

Quotes attributable to Strand Ward Cr Pamela Sutton-Legaud

"Paine Reserve is a real cornerstone of the Newport community, hundreds of people walk past it each day on the way to Newport Station, it's a stone's throw from The Substation and it's in the heart of the Newport trading precinct.

"I know how popular this space is for young families and it is fabulous that our community can now play, relax and enjoy the reserve again."
