Boronia Heights bench sparks important conversations
Logan City Council has installed a new community bench in Boronia Heights to spark conversations and spread awareness about the impact of domestic and family violence.
The bench, located in the Boronia Bushland Reserve, has been installed in remembrance of Allison Baden-Clay, who was tragically killed in 2012.
The orange and yellow bench features sunflowers, which were Allison's favourite flower, and symbolise kindness and hope.
The bench is one of several erected across Division 7 to raise awareness about domestic violence and other issues in recent years. Others are in Middle Park, Forest Glen Park, Silvertop Park, Sweetgum Park and outside the Logan West Community Centre.
Members of Allison's family joined Division 7 Councillor Tim Frazer for the opening of the bench on Friday, January 30.
Kids celebrate Australia Day with special gallery
Artworks created by local children for Australia Day will be displayed at two Logan City Council venues this month.
The artworks, each a unique depiction of 'Australia', were created by 15 children at a Marsden family barbecue hosted by Division 5 Councillor Paul Jackson on January 26.
The pieces will be showcased at Marsden Library and displayed digitally at the Logan Art Gallery until February 28.
Marsden Library is located at 35 Chambers Flat Rd, Kingston and Logan Art Gallery is on the corner of Wembley Rd and Jacaranda Ave, Logan Central.
