Next Chapter For New Cultural Arts Precinct

VIC Premier

Victorians will soon benefit from a new cultural arts precinct in Melbourne's inner south.

Minister Suleyman joined the community at the In One Voice Festival in Elsternwick, announcing works will soon begin on the Jewish Arts Quarter.

The vibrant hub will create jobs, support local business and showcase the state's rich diversity.

It includes a performing arts theatre, exhibition spaces, co-working facilities, retail shops, cafes and public spaces.

It will also be the new home of the Jewish Museum of Australia.

The project is expected to generate $65 million in investment during construction, create 210 construction jobs and 31 ongoing jobs, and bring more visitors to small businesses in the area.

Initial site-readiness works will include demolition of the existing structures at 7 Selwyn Street, Elsternwick.

Historic artworks by Karl Duldig will be conserved during redevelopment and incorporated into the new building.

Multicultural business precincts provide unique places where communities gather, shop, work and build cultural connections and friendships.

The Allan Labor Government provided a further $2 million in funding through the Victorian Budget 2023/24 to support the Jewish Arts Quarter development.

This is in addition to the government's previous $5 million contribution towards the development.
