Ng Discusses Trade with South Korean Minister Cheong

On the margins of the World Trade Organization's (WTO's) 13th Ministerial Conference (MC13) today, the Honourable Mary Ng, Minister of Export Promotion, International Trade and Economic Development, met with Minister Cheong, South Korea's recently appointed minister for trade.

During the meeting, the ministers talked about the importance of an inclusive, sustainable and rules-based international trading system with the WTO at its core.

The ministers also discussed Canada's Indo-Pacific Strategy and Minister Ng's upcoming Team Canada Trade Mission to South Korea, which will take place from April 21 to 25, 2024. Minister Ng reiterated Canada's commitment to advancing trade priorities for all and to working collaboratively with South Korea on key issues, including e-commerce, industrial policy, fisheries subsidies, dispute settlement and agriculture.

In recognition of Canada and South Korea's close cooperation under the Canada-Korea Free Trade Agreement (CKFTA), Minister Ng invited Minister Cheong to Canada to co-chair the next meeting of the CKFTA's Joint Commission in 2025.
