In accordance with the Nimmitabel Drought Contingency and Emergency Response Plan, Snowy Monaro Regional Council has placed Nimmitabel under Level 2 Water Restrictions from Tuesday 24 February 2026.
Water levels and the rate of waterflow in the Maclaughlin River have dropped, triggering the implementation of Level 2 Water Restrictions. These restrictions apply to all properties connected to the Nimmitabel town water supply.
Low rainfall is forecast over the next several months and action is needed now to preserve Nimmitabel's main water source.
Nimmitabel Level 2 (Low-Moderate) Water Restrictions
Not allowed
- No fixed sprinklers
- No in-ground water systems, soaker hoses, or micro-spray systems
- No filling or topping up of private swimming pools
- No hosing driveways, footpaths, or other paved areas
Still allowed
- Watering lawns and gardens with a handheld hose
- Washing vehicles by hand with a bucket while parked on grass, one final rinse with handheld trigger hose OK
- Bowling greens can use fixed sprinklers and in-ground watering systems for a maximum of one hour per day
Council is asking for the cooperation of local residents and businesses to reduce water usage while these restrictions are in place.
Further restrictions may be required if water levels and flow rate in the Maclaughlin River continue to decline.
