Nine Heritage Slab Barns Receive Assistance Funding

Image of a slab barn at Pitt TownNine Hawkesbury heritage slab barns will share in $121,000 in Local Heritage Assistance Funding in the 2024/2025 financial year – the most ever provided under the assistance program.

The funding seeks the preservation of Hawkesbury's unique and significant early settlement timber slab barns and outbuildings.

The slab barns are located in Pitt Town (4), Wilberforce (2), Windsor (2) and Freemans Reach (1). All successful applicants will be required to work with Council to ensure the works are carried out and funding spent according to the appropriate guidelines.

The funding runs parallel with the Slab Barn and Outbuilding Study, which was adopted by Council in April 2025, and the submission of a Planning Proposal to the NSW Department of Planning, Housing and Infrastructure to seek the heritage listing of 19 slab barns and outbuildings identified in the Study, which was determined at the May 2025 Council meeting.
