Do you know someone who is doing something outstanding for the Nillumbik community?

You have just one month to nominate them for Nillumbik Shire Council's inaugural Nillumbik Community Awards.

The award recipients will be announced at a celebration event on Thursday 17 August at the Eltham Community Reception Centre.

The new awards program aims to recognise the outstanding service and achievements of individuals and community groups in Nillumbik and includes the following categories:

  • Nillumbik Volunteer
  • Nillumbik Community Group
  • Nillumbik Young Citizen (under the age of 25)

There will also be awards recognising significant contributions in the following areas:

  • Contribution to Arts, Culture and Heritage
  • Contribution to Diversity and Inclusion
  • Contribution to Environment and Sustainability
  • Contribution to Reconciliation.

Mayor Ben Ramcharan said Nillumbik had countless community champions who deserved to be recognised.

"These community members and groups are our unsung heroes – they are what makes Nillumbik such an amazing place to live. Money cannot buy the value that their dedication brings to our community and our environment," Cr Ramcharan said.

"This is one small way to show our appreciation for everything they do for us. I hope our community can support these new awards by nominating deserving individuals and groups."

Nominations close Sunday 25 June.
