Colac Otway Shire residents are being encouraged to nominate outstanding members of the community with this year's Community Awards now open.

The Community Awards recognise the work and commitment of individuals and groups who have made a significant contribution to the shire.

"The Community Awards are an event I look forward to each year as they're an opportunity to acknowledge people of Colac Otway who do great work for the benefit of our towns and small communities,' Mayor Chris Potter said.

"There are many individuals and groups who make a positive difference to the lives of others in our community, this might be through small, everyday gestures or on a larger scale, and the Community Awards are our chance to recognise them and say thank you."

Council is asking for nominations across three categories, Community Service Award (individual or group), Young Citizen of the Year and Citizen of the Year.

Mayor Chris Potter encouraged locals to nominate deserving community members.

"I encourage everyone to take a moment to think about people you know in our Colac Otway community who give their time to improve the lives and wellbeing of others and nominate them for a Community Award," Cr Potter said.

Nomination forms and guidelines are available on Council's website at https://www.colacotway.vic.gov.au/Council-the-shire/Permits-applications-forms/Community-Awards-Nominations or at Council's Customer Service Centres in Colac and Apollo Bay. Nominations for the Colac Otway Community Awards close on 29 January 2023.
