Port Stephens residents are invited to nominate the people and groups making an outstanding contribution to the local community.
The 2026 Port Stephens Annual Awards recognise the people who help make Port Stephens a connected, inclusive and vibrant place to live.
Port Stephens Mayor Leah Anderson said the Annual Awards give the community a chance to recognise the people who make a difference every day.
"Port Stephens is full of people who give their time, share their skills and step up to help others. These awards celebrate that contribution and say thank you," Mayor Anderson said.
"Whether it's someone who has spent years volunteering, a young person making their mark, a sporting achiever, a creative, or someone working to protect our environment, there are so many ways people contribute to our community," Mayor Anderson added.
"The nominations come from our community, which makes these awards particularly meaningful. I encourage everyone to nominate the people who make a difference in their lives or their community."
The award categories include:
- Freeman of Port Stephens: for exceptional service and a lifetime of outstanding contribution to the community.
- Citizen of the Year: recognising an individual who has made a significant contribution to the community, particularly over the past 12 months.
- Young Citizen of the Year: recognising a young person aged 25 or younger who has demonstrated outstanding leadership or contribution.
- Port Stephens Medal: recognising distinguished service by an individual, organisation or group.
- Sportsperson of the Year: recognising excellence in sport through participation, coaching, officiating or administration.
- Cultural Endeavour: recognising outstanding contributions to arts, culture, heritage and creativity.
- Environmental Award: recognising outstanding environmental leadership and sustainability initiatives
The 2026 Annual Awards will be presented as part of Council's Australia Day program on Tuesday 26 January 2027.
