NOPTA's New Resource Management Guidance: Have Your Say

Dept of Industry, Science and Resources

NOPTA has produced new guidance after the Australian Government remade the Offshore Petroleum and Greenhouse Gas Storage (Resource Management and Administration) Regulations 2025. It aims to help industry understand changes in the remade regulations.

NOPTA is seeking feedback on whether the documents are easy to understand and use.

The regulations set out requirements for resource management and administration and provide a framework for the collection of petroleum and greenhouse gas information.

The new regulations come into effect from 31 March 2026.

The new guidance material reflects changes to:

  • annual titles assessment report (ATAR) reporting requirements, including the introduction of approved forms
  • field development plan application and approval requirements
  • data management, reporting and sample submission requirements
  • release timeframes for offshore petroleum and greenhouse gas data and samples.
