We have released Australia's 2025-26 northern wet season climate summary.
The 2025-26 wet season was the seventh wettest on record and temperatures across northern Australia were above average.
The wet season runs from October to April. This is northern Australia's peak time for rainfall, severe thunderstorms and tropical cyclones.
Average wet season rainfall across the north for 2025-26 was around 684 mm, which is 44% above average.
There were some areas with below average rainfall. This included parts of southern Queensland and some inland parts of the Pilbara and Gascoyne regions in Western Australia.
There were 11 tropical cyclones in the Australian region this season. This is close to our average of 10. Six cyclones crossed land this season, and 7 reached severe tropical cyclone strength of category 3 or higher.
Sea surface temperatures around northern Australia were the fourth warmest on record. In the Coral Sea they were the warmest on record for the second consecutive wet season.
