Northern Tasmania to Have Safe and Secure Family Court Registry

Today I have opened new premises for the Launceston Registry of the Federal Circuit and Family Court of Australia that will provide a safe and secure location for parents and children in Northern Tasmania experiencing family breakdown.

Access to dispute resolution needs to be achieved in a way that ensures the safety and security of all parties while respecting their rights and dignity.

Relocating the Launceston Registry of the Federal Circuit and Family Court of Australia greatly enhances the security and overall experience for everyone using the court, including families, court staff and legal practitioners.

I am particularly pleased that purpose-built spaces have been created for the safety and comfort of children and vulnerable litigants, including those affected by family violence. Keeping families safe is at the heart of the family law system.

The family law courts serve a vital function for families in this country. The Australian Government is committed to ensuring our legal system meets the needs of modern Australian families, and supports them to resolve their disputes in a safe, child centred, accessible, and timely way.
