Northland - an economic powerhouse
Northland is set to unlock its full economic potential with several transformative infrastructure and industrial developments underway. Winston Peters and Shane Jones were in Northland this week for the latest announcements. "The burgeoning energy, export and economic powerhouse of Marsden Point means New Zealand will prosper with much-needed jobs, trade, manufacturing and economic development" - Winston Peters During the last election campaign, New Zealand First made a concrete commitment to champion Northland's development-specifically backing regional infrastructure like the Marsden Point projects and rail linkage as central to the party's regional growth agenda. And there is plenty to celebrate in Northland. "While this on its own is great news for New Zealand's fuel resilience, other initiatives are being undertaken here such as the potential development of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF), the upcoming construction of a bitumen import terminal, diesel peaker and biorefinery make Marsden Point a world-class proposition" - Shane Jones
"Our country's name is New Zealand and should not change unless the people of our country decide to change it." - Winston Peters New Zealand First knows what our country's name and our country's flag means to Kiwis, and we will not stop fighting to protect them. If you missed our latest Member's Bill announcement to enshrine our country's name into law, go to our website to check it out. This draft legislation came as a result of continued attacks on our country's name in the house, quickly called out by Winston Peters. Make sure you watch Winston's recent interview on Te Ao with Moana to hear from our Party Leader directly. Or on The Platform earlier in the week discussing the importance of defending the name of our country. |
Hitting the gas on Geothermal energy
Shane has announced the Government's plans to double the production of geothermal energy by 2040. We know that geothermal energy is a key feature to ensure that New Zealand has affordable energy, in addition to other sources. We must continue to develop long term energy resilience in New Zealand and Shane Jones remains a heavyweight champion for energy. Listen to more on these updates from Shane on Newstalk ZB with Mike Hosking or with Ryan Bridge on the Herald NOW. All things energy and resources, the Crown Minerals Amendment Bill also progressed through the final stages of the legislation process in the house. This will remove the ban on oil and gas exploration in New Zealand, unlocking more of our natural resources to create jobs, and solidify our energy resilience. "This legislation is just one of many actions we are taking to get the right settings in place to resuscitate sector confidence, shore up energy supply and protect electricity affordability." - Shane Jones Fishing for reform
The latest fisheries reforms announced by the Minister of Oceans and Fisheries are a cornerstone of the Government's export-led economic strategy with seafood yielding around $1.5b annually "These changes are the most significant reforms to the Fisheries Act for decades and they reflect my commitment to the success of our fishing industry which generates around $1.5 billion in exports each year." - Shane Jones |
More from the NZ First Winter Tour
Shane Jones addressed another packed out room in Nelson last weekend as part of the ongoing tour with our MPs. Check out the events page of our website to see where he is heading next - and make sure you get there early to get a seat!
Our MPs have held public meetings in Whanganui, Te Awamutu, Auckland, Wairarapa and Dunedin over the past couple of weeks. We are receiving great feedback on the ground about what is important to Kiwis and their communities, and what they think about our achievements in Government to date. |
