Patients, visitors and staff at Port Macquarie Base Hospital now have access to more than 200 additional free car parking spaces across the hospital campus, with the Car Park project now complete.
The new and free car parking facilities have been delivered as part of the NSW Government's $33.97 million Helipad and Car Park Project at Port Macquarie Base Hospital, to enhance accessibility to local health services.
The final phase of work included the upgrade of the Rotary Lodge car park outside the Mid North Coast Cancer Institute which includes 20 parking spaces. This is in addition to more than 180 additional car parks which opened to the community and staff at the end of last year.
Since becoming operational in late 2023, the new rooftop helipad has enabled the safe and timely transportation of dozens of patients, the new location providing aeromedical clinicians direct access to the hospital's emergency department and operating theatres ensuring immediate lifesaving care to patients.
In addition to the helipad relocation and car park project, the NSW Government is investing $265 million in the upgrade of Port Macquarie Hospital. This project will deliver expansion of the Hospital's Emergency Department and Maternity Department as well as essential upgrades to the mechanical systems of the existing hospital building.
Early planning is underway for the $265 million project and the community and staff will continue to be kept updated on this significant investment in the hospital's infrastructure.
