NSW latest coronavirus data as at 5 May

As at 8pm Monday 4 May 2020, three additional cases of COVID-19 have been diagnosed since 8pm 3 May, bringing the total to 3,035.

During that time, 5,296 people were tested, compared to 5,571 people in the 24 hours before. NSW Health would like to thank those with symptoms for coming forward, getting tested and ensuring as many cases in the community are identified as quickly as possible.

One case previously reported in the NSW totals has now been excluded after further testing, reflecting the adjusted overall total of 3,035 confirmed cases.

There has been one death over the reporting period which has already been mentioned by media - that of a 72-year-old male resident of Newmarch House. NSW Health extends its deepest condolences to the family. There have been 15 deaths linked to the aged care facility.

There are currently 102 COVID-19 cases being treated by NSW Health. This includes 13 people being treated in Intensive Care Units, with 11 of those requiring ventilators. 75 per cent of cases are in non-acute, out-of-hospital care.

There have now been 2,349 people who have recovered from COVID-19 in NSW.

Of the three new COVID-19 cases in NSW, two were staff members at Newmarch House picked up in the additional testing regime underway, making it 37 residents and 28 staff testing positive at the facility, for a total of 65 cases.

NSW Health has offered, and the Federal Government and Anglicare has agreed, to ensure all staff will be tested every day at the start of their shifts for COVID-19. 94 staff were tested yesterday.

Residents continue to have the choice of being cared for in the facility through hospital in the home, or being treated in Nepean Hospital, depending on their Advanced Care Directive and their own personal wishes.

There has been one new case reported in a health care worker at Nepean Blue Mountains Local Health District. The worker did not work while infectious and investigations are underway.

There have been no further cases linked to yesterday's reported case of a student at Warragamba Public School and the school has been re-opened.

NSW Health is urging people with symptoms, including mild symptoms, to be tested to ensure as many cases of COVID-19 in the community are as identified as quickly as possible.

This is particularly important in several new areas following a locally acquired case. These include Blacktown, Canada Bay, Cumberland, Inner West, Liverpool, Parramatta and Penrith Local Government Areas.
