NSW latest coronavirus data as at 6 September

Ten new cases of COVID-19 were diagnosed in the 24 hours to 8pm last night, bringing the total number of cases in NSW to 3,925.

There were 38,526 tests reported in the 24-hour reporting period, compared with 30,339 in the previous 24 hours. While the number appears to be a record figure, it includes 18,956 tests conducted by a private laboratory between 10 August and 2 September, which were not previously reported to NSW Health. All of the previously conducted tests had negative results and there was no impact on the timely notification of results to any individual tested. The private facility has now resolved the issue.

Of the 10 new cases to 8pm last night:

• Four are returned overseas travellers in hotel quarantine
• Four are locally acquired and linked to a known source or cluster, including:
• three are linked to the CBD cluster, bringing the total to 64
• one is a contact of a previously reported case, a woman in her 30s from South Western Sydney
• Two cases are under investigation - a man in his 40s from Northern Sydney and a child from Western Sydney

Two of the new cases attend Year 7 at Kincoppal Rose Bay School of the Sacred Heart. The high school will be closed tomorrow, but the early learning centre and junior school will be open as normal. One of today's new cases attends Lidcombe Public School. Both schools being cleaned and contact tracing is continuing.

As reported yesterday, one of today's cases attended Hyde Park Medical Centre at 175 Liverpool St Sydney. NSW Health is assessing potential exposure to COVID-19 of people who attended the centre and physiotherapy, pathology, dermatology and dental practices or pharmacy on the ground floor of the building from Monday, 24 August 2020 to Saturday, 5 September 2020.

Also as reported yesterday, another of today's cases is a health professional who worked while potentially infectious at Concord Hospital emergency department on 1 September from 2pm to midnight and at Liverpool Hospital emergency department on 3 September from 8am to 6pm. Services at the hospitals are not affected.

The health professional wore full personal protective equipment at all times while in contact with patients, and a surgical mask at all other times. They became unwell on 4 September and immediately got tested and isolated. Investigations into the source of this infection and contact tracing are underway. All patients and staff members who were in close contact with the health professional are being contacted and advised to get tested and self-isolate.

NSW Health is treating 90 COVID-19 cases, including seven in intensive care, four of whom are being ventilated. Eighty-four per cent of cases being treated by NSW Health are in non-acute, out-of-hospital care.

COVID-19 continues to circulate in the community and we must all be vigilant. To help stop the spread of COVID-19:

• If​ you are unwell, get tested and isolate right away - don't delay
• Wash your hands regularly. Take hand sanitiser with you when you go out.
• Keep your distance. Leave 1.5 metres between yourself and others.
• Wear a mask on public transport, ride share, taxis, shopping, places of worship and other places where you can't physically distance.
