NSW police car rammed, man charged

Police have charged two men following a police operation Bateau Bay yesterday, NSW Police say.

About 8.30am on Sunday 29 July 2018, police were patrolling a carpark at Shelley Beach Road when they noticed a parked Subaru WRX.

Police parked behind the car and approached the driver as he was wanted for an outstanding warrant.

Police allege the driver reversed the Subaru car hitting the police vehicle. Police further allege he moved the car forward and reversed again into the police car.

Officers attempted to stop the driver, however, were forced to move out of the way to avoid being hit.

The car reversed again, this time colliding with a truck before speeding away along Bateau Bay Road.

The car was located a short time later in Yakalla Street.

An investigation was commenced and officers from Tuggerah Lakes Police District, attended Shane Drive, Bateau Bay where they located a 35-year-old man.

He was arrested and taken to Wyong Police Station where he was charged with use offensive weapon to prevent lawful detention, drive recklessly /furiously or speed/manner dangerous, drive while licence cancelled, and a revocation of parole warrant.

He was refused bail and will appear in Wyong Local Court today (Tuesday 31 July 2018)

While officers were at the Shane Drive premises they arrested a second man, aged 26, for two outstanding warrants.

He was also refused bail and will appear in Wyong Local Court today.
