NSW Police Charge Suspect in Two-Year-Old's Death

A man and woman will appear in court today charged following to death of a two-year old child in the State's Riverina last year.

On Friday 1 December 2023, a two-year-old boy was presented to Griffith Base Hospital with significant head injuries. He was airlifted to Sydney Children's Hospital, Randwick; however, died on Sunday 3 December 2023.

Police were notified and officers attached to Murrumbidgee Police District established Strike Force Burtundy to investigate the circumstances surrounding the toddler's death.

Following inquiries, just before 11am yesterday (Wednesday 3 April 2024), local police along with officers attached to Murrumbidgee Child Abuse Squad attended a property in the Griffith area and arrested a 21-year-old woman and a 33-year-old man.

They were taken to Griffith Police Station, where they were both charged with manslaughter (DV).

The woman was also charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm (DV) in relation to the alleged assault of a two-month-old baby in November 2023.

They were both refused bail to appear in Griffith Local Court today (Thursday 4 March 2024).

Inquiries under Strike Force Burtundy continue.
