NSW police charge two over death of toddler in Sydney's south-west

A woman and man have been charged over the death of a boy in Sydney's south-west last year.

The two-year-old boy was unconscious on arrival at Westmead Hospital about 9pm on Friday 3 August 2018; despite the efforts of hospital staff, he could not be revived.

Officers from Fairfield Police Area Command established Strike Force Jillalla after a post-mortem examination deemed the child's death to be suspicious.

On Wednesday 26 September 2018, investigators executed a search warrant at a property on Park Road, Cabramatta, seizing several items for forensic examination.

Following inquiries, investigators arrested a 26-year-old woman and a 34-year-old man at a North Parramatta unit about 2.30pm yesterday (Wednesday 20 February 2019), with the assistance of North West Metropolitan OSG Response Group.

They were taken to Parramatta Police Station where the woman was charged with murder, and the man was charged with conceal serious indictable offence.

Both will appear before Parramatta Local Court today (Thursday 20 February 2019).

Police will allege in court that the boy was injured at a Cabramatta home before he was later driven to Westmead Hospital.
