NSW Police are reminding the public of changes to traffic conditions across Sydney as part of the Invictus Games and Royal visit starting this week, NSW Police say.
Road closures and extended special event clearways will be in place to facilitate the movement of visiting dignitaries and athletes at key locations.
NSW Police has been working closely with event organisers to minimise disruption to the community while ensuring public safety but are urging anyone participating in the events to monitor information.
Significant crowd numbers are expected in the CBD and other locations throughout the week as Their Royal Highnesses, The Duke and Duchess of Sussex make several public appearances.
Anyone planning to attend public viewings of the Royal couple is urged to use public transport, plan ahead, and expect there will be some delays with added security and transport measures in place.
Operation Soaring Commander, Assistant Commissioner Mick Willing said those who want to catch a glimpse of the Royal couple will need to get to the venues early to secure a limited spot.
"Huge crowds are expected to make their way to the viewing opportunities, however there is only limited space available for the public and once sites are at capacity, people will be directed away from the area," Assistant Commissioner Willing said.
"NSW Police is proud to be supporting the Invictus Games and Royal visit and we want everyone to enjoy the experience, so plan ahead and get to the events with minimum fuss.
"Officers will be out in significant numbers and won’t tolerate bad behaviour, so please ensure you do the right thing so everyone can enjoy the experience. Anyone causing problems can expect to be moved on from the venue," Assistant Commissioner Mick Willing said.
Barricades will be in place and both uniformed and plain clothes police will be patrolling all public viewing opportunities of Their Royal Highnesses and the Invictus Games events to ensure public safety and crowd behaviour.
Operation Soaring, a high-visibility police operation, comprising general duties police and specialist units including the Protection Operations Unit, Traffic and Highway Patrol Command, Tactical Operations Unit, Public Order and Riot Squad, Dog Unit, PolAir and the Marine Area Command and will run from Monday 15 October through to Sunday 28 October 2018.
A highly-visible and mobile police response will be in place to monitor crowd behaviour, detect offences and assist with crowd management to ensure spectators have an enjoyable experience.
The public is reminded to expect delays throughout the two weeks and ensure you check signs for changed conditions. Vehicles left in special event clearways will be towed at the owner’s expense.
