NSW police probe after hang glider crash

Police have responded to a serious injury incident after a hang glider crashed at Stanwell Park this afternoon, NSW Police say.

Police believe that a 52-year-old man was intending to hang glide from Bald Hill to Stanwell Park Beach 5pm today (Monday 12 March 2018).

Emergency services were called to area after the crash and officers from Wollongong Police District were told that the hang glider appeared to stall and then clipped trees that stand about 30-40 metres high at the northern end of the park.

The hang glider then fell from a height of 20 metres to the ground.

Ambulance paramedics and council lifeguards treated the man at the scene for suspected head, jaw and lung injuries.

After being stabilised, the man was airlifted to St George Hospital in a serious condition.

Inquiries into the incident continue.

Police are urging anyone with information in relation to this incident to call Crime Stoppers.
