NSW police probe suspicious fire, theft of firearm near Braidwood

Police are appealing for public assistance following a suspicious fire at a property near Braidwood, NSW Police say.

About 4pm yesterday (Thursday 24 May 2018), emergency services were called to a property on Nerriga Road at Durran Durra after reports of a fire.

Police and Rural Fire Service personnel attended and found a large shed, along with a caravan and a vehicle, well alight.

The fire was extinguished; however, significant damage was caused.

During a canvass of the property, it was discovered that a number of shipping containers, caravans and cars had been broken into.

A firearm, ammunition and other items were stolen from the property.

Officers from Monaro Police District established a crime scene which was forensically examined throughout the day.

About 12.30pm today (Friday 25 May 2018), officers located a safe at Molongolo Gorge via Sutton, believed to have been stolen from the property.

An investigation into the incident is underway and police are appealing for anyone with information to come forward.

Police are urging anyone with information in relation to this incident to call Crime Stoppers.
