NSW police seek info after two officers injured

Police are appealing for information after two officers were injured during a vehicle stop at Broken Hill at the weekend, NSW Police say.

About 8.45pm on Saturday (6 October 2018), officers from Barrier Police District stopped a Toyota Corolla on Beryl Street, Broken Hill for the purpose of a random breath test.

The driver, a 39-year-old Queensland man, returned a negative result to the roadside breath test.

While speaking with police, the man became agitated, turned on the vehicle and attempted to dive away.

A female Probationary Constable attempted to remove the keys from the Corolla and suffered injuries to her right hand and wrist.

A female Constable came to assist and suffered injuries to her left arm and shoulder.

Both officers were taken to Broken Hill Hospital for treatment and have since been released.

About 11.45am on Sunday (7 October 2018), police located the Corolla, which was reported as stolen from Queensland in June, on Finn Street.

Officers searched the car and seized an amount of methamphetamine, knives and other items.

The Corolla was towed from the scene and will be examined by specialist police.

Police would like to speak with a man who may be able to assist with inquiries.

The man is described as being of Caucasian appearance, with a medium build, dark facial hair and a bald head.

As inquiries continue, anyone with information is urged to contact Broken Hill Police or Crime Stoppers.
