The NSW State Emergency Service (SES) is warning of significant rainfall in quick succession this week will lead to renewed flooding for much of inland NSW.
The Bureau of Metrology has forecast rain to fall in the far west of NSW from today, which will intensify over central inland NSW on Wednesday. A second system has been forecast to impact inland areas on Friday, extending to the coast over the weekend.
NSW SES Commissioner Carlene York APM says the forecast will be another challenge for many communities who have been flooding for close to a year now.
"The majority of river systems are already full, and the predicted rainfall could see renewed river level rises similar to what has been experienced in the last month," said Commissioner York.
"Many communities across inland, central west and western NSW including Gunnedah, Wee Waa, Warren, Parkes, Forbes, and Albury are expected to be impacted.
The SES is preparing in many parts of the state by deploying additional volunteers, vehicles, boats and helicopters to support local teams.
Commissioner York said volunteers were also preparing for a busy weekend with the Bathurst 1000 due to take place from Thursday to Sunday.
"We are preparing for possible flooding along the Macquarie River - and with Bathurst shaping up for a wet weekend it is important people take steps to stay safe," she said.
"School holidays are also continuing so it is important all holiday makers who are traveling on the roads over this time to drive to the conditions and avoid flooded roads."
Commissioner York said it was important people know their risk and have a plan that allows them to make safe and sensible decisions.
"Simple things like preparing an emergency evacuation kit can be incredibly useful and help you in the event you need to evacuate your home," she said.
"Our website has a lot of useful information for anyone needing assistance to prepare or learn about their risks."
