NSW police assaulted during arrest

A man will re-appear in court next month after violently resisting police during an arrest on the states south coast yesterday, NSW Police say.

About 4.45pm on Sunday 4 March 2018, police received information about a woman being assaulted in a home at Beach Road at Batehaven.

The officers, who were patrolling nearby, stopped a man and spoke to him about the earlier assault.

The man allegedly charged the officers challenging them to fight, while the police were forced to deploy OC spray.

Striking one officer to the face several times the assault continued until one officer activated a Taser.

The man was then restrained on the ground until the arrival of other police.

After being handcuffed the man was conveyed to Batemans Bay Police Station where both he and the injured officer were treated by Ambulance paramedics.

The 32-year-old man was charged with assault police (x 2), resist arrest, intimidation, malicious damage and breach AVO.

The man appeared in Batemans Bay Local Court today (Monday 5 March 2018) where he was refused bail to re-appear on Friday 20 April 2018.
