The Northern Territory (NT) is today reporting the death of a female in her 60s with COVID-19.
The woman was from Tennant Creek, had underlying health conditions and passed away at Alice Springs Hospital.
The total number of COVID-19 related deaths recorded in the NT since the start of the pandemic is 45.
There were 298 new cases of COVID-19 recorded in the NT in the 24 hours to 8pm on 6 May 2022. Of these, 256 were positive cases from a Rapid Antigen Test (RAT).
There were 202 cases recorded in the Top End region, 30 in Central Australia, seven in East Arnhem, 20 in the Big Rivers region, four in the Barkly region and 35 are under investigation.
There are currently 36 patients in hospital. There are three patients requiring oxygen and no patients in ICU.
The number of active cases in the NT is 2,312.
Public health measures
To slow the spread of COVID-19 in our community and reduce the rate of transmission, the following public health measures are in place across the NT:
Masks must be worn in high-risk settings including hospitals, GP clinics, remote health clinics, renal facilities, aged care facilities, family violence shelters, sobering up shelters, homeless shelters, corrections facilities and disability facilities. Disability support workers need to wear a mask when undertaking home-services.Masks must also be worn in airports and on flights, in line with federal requirements.It is highly recommended that all people aged 12 years and over wear a mask when physical distancing cannot be applied.
COVID-19 vaccination
It's important all Territorians aged five years and over stay up-to-date with their COVID-19 vaccinations. Being fully vaccinated against COVID-19 significantly reduces the risk of serious illness and hospitalisation.
The COVID-19 vaccine is available in the NT at participating GP clinics, pharmacies, respiratory clinics, Aboriginal health clinics and NT Health Vaccination Centres.

COVID-19 testing
Everyone should get tested for COVID-19 if showing symptoms. A number of NT Rapid Antigen Testing and Distribution Points here have been established.
To reduce the risk of COVID-19 spreading in our communities, it is important for everyone to follow all health directions:
* If you have symptoms, stay away from others and get tested for COVID-19
* Wash your hands with soap and water and use hand sanitiser regularly
* Do not go to work if you feel sick
* Maintain a physical distance of 1.5 metres where possible.
