Three Pacific Climate Envoys have been appointed to elevate regional priorities at COP31.
The new envoys will highlight Pacific climate leadership on the global stage. This will ensure the region's voice is central in shaping international action.
The envoys were endorsed by Pacific Climate Change Ministers and appointed by COP31 President, Türkiye. Each brings knowledge and experience to these important positions.
They will work with key stakeholders to shape outcomes at COP31 and beyond, including:
- governments
- regional institutions
- international partners
Each envoy has a different focus area aligned with the Pacific's regional priorities:
Ms Tina Stege - Regional Envoy for Oceania
(Republic of the Marshall Islands)
Ms Stege is a respected global climate negotiator. She will lead regional efforts to keep the 1.5°C temperature goal within reach. She brings decades of experience in international climate diplomacy. This includes leadership within the High Ambition Coalition - a group of countries calling for progressive action on climate change and environmental issues.
Mr Ruel Yamuna - Envoy for Access to Climate Finance
(Papua New Guinea)
Mr Yamuna is Papua New Guinea's Special Envoy for Climate and Environment. He will focus on improving access to climate finance for Pacific Island countries. His work will support efforts to make sure resources reach the communities most vulnerable to climate impacts.
Hon. Inia Seruiratu MP - Envoy for the Ocean
(Fiji)
Hon. Seruiratu is a senior Fijian leader and former Global Climate Champion. He will champion Ocean health, coastal resilience and Ocean based climate solutions. This reflects the central role of the ocean in Pacific livelihoods and climate resilience.
